Avalon Malibu has two residential treatment houses one being the Cottage House where our substance abuse treatment program takes place. The Cottage House is licensed under the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, (ADP) to treat substance use and abuse disorders along with co-occurring behavioral health issues. The program is also licensed to treat adults in an inpatient setting in what is considered to be a ‘sub-acute medically supervised detoxification.’Avalon Malibu offers comprehensive substance abuse treatment programs. Our team of dedicated professionals are trained extensively to accommodate and aid in the recovery of our substance abuse clients. Our residential Substance Abuse Treatment offers specific protocols from Inpatient Psych, and Detoxification, to Residential Treatment, Partial Hospitalization (day treatment), Intensive Outpatient Programs and Outpatient Psychotherapy with Medication Management. Our emphasis is on integrating mind, body and spirit with evidenced based therapeutic processes using expressive arts as a critical medium for change.
At Avalon Malibu our emphasis is on integrating mind, body and spirit with evidenced based therapeutic processes. We combine 12 step approaches with group and individual psychotherapy. Avalon Malibu offers therapeutic interventions founded on evidenced based principles of mindfulness, present time awareness, acceptance, investigation and change. The principals of our educational and therapeutic model are formed using Motivational Enhancement Therapy combined with Cognitive behavioral therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies.
Avalon Malibu offers couples and family therapy aimed at helping clients resolve conflicts, strengthen healthy bonds, and forge positive relationship dynamics. Addiction not only challenges the addict. Its impact challenges the family, friends, co-workers and loved ones. Our psychologists help facilitate the healing process between the addict and their family. Releasing the shame and blame that often accompany the addict in moving towards understanding, forgiveness and compassion are key to establishing healthy relationships within the family system. Family therapy is an important and integral part of the therapeutic process at Avalon Malibu.
At Avalon Malibu, every client who comes to our residential Cottage House for recovery also participates in one on one psychotherapy and counseling, along with group therapies, and marriage and family therapy when needed. Avalon Malibu also provides extensive aftercare planning and counseling with a goal to improve retention in treatment, in order to reduce behaviors such as unemployment, family discourse, and self-harmful behaviors. We assist each client with gaining greater insight into the meaning of life, where the pain of the past becomes a stepping stone to a future built on choice, rather than compulsion.
Useful for managing stress, depression, anxiety and trauma, mindfulness meditation enhances scientifically proven treatment. Mindful meditation allows clients to increase awareness of stressors, emotions and thought patterns. Practicing this insight, clients can achieve acceptance and experience deep conscious awareness, in conjunction with adjunct therapies.

Avalon Malibu is licensed by the State Department of Health Services to treat psychiatric patients in our Residential Treatment Facility. Avalon Malibu has a separate house we call,“The Grand House”, is licensed under the strict rules set forth by The California Department of Social Services (DSS) and certified by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) and The Department of Health Services. (DHS) The Grand House is devoted to treating Axis I, psychiatric illnesses. This non-hospital-like, sanctuary setting, offers individualized care, in a beautiful ocean-front, tranquil, caring and nurturing environment.
Our staff is highly trained in making accurate diagnosis, in order to best serve each client individual needs. This may include getting them on the correct medications and dosage, while obtaining intensive daily psychotherapy and medication management in order to resolve life-long issues.
Mental Health Treatment At Avalon Malibu,Our treatment plan consists of treating the underlying lifelong unresolved Mental Health issues that most often maintain and perpetuate a disorder. There is a strong focus on relational, attachment and family issues. We specialize in co-occurring psychiatric issues such as social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Avalon Malibu contracts with four Board Certified Physicians specializing in Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Addictionology, Neurology, and other certified specialists in Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Neurofeedback and Holistic approaches to medicine.
